About us Canada is a country rich with resources, yet across our nation, we are witnessing dramatic increases in the number of young people between the ages of 15-18 with no place to call home. The reasons these youth are homeless vary dramatically. At the Youth Emergency Shelter Society (YESS), we serve this population youth in crisis. Rather than home, warmth, security and love, these children face overwhelming challenges and the perils of the street. Perceptions of these young people run the gamut from inner city riffraff to spoiled kids from the suburbs who are acting out to dropouts or druggies to helpless and abused children. They are all teenagers, with hopes and dreams, fragile emotions, and an incredible drive to have a good life. At the Youth Emergency Shelter Society (YESS), we serve this population youth in crisis. The Youth Emergency Shelter Society has a strong history of serving youth at risk in a caring, compassionate and concerned manner and, despite the setbacks and challenges of delivering these programs, we have provided an enormous amount of excellent service to the youth of Edmonton.
